Acquisitions

The Acquisitions Department of the University of Miami Libraries is responsible for the acquisition of library collection materials in all formats, including the licensing, set-up, and management of electronic resources.  Working closely with liaison librarians, subject specialists who select and oversee the collection resources, the Department strives to acquire materials in a timely manner, process tangible materials and enable electronic access promptly, and maintain accessibility in a constantly evolving electronic environment.  The Acquisitions Department also manages the financial process of acquisitions, from ordering through final payment, including oversight of the collections budget and numerous gift/endowment accounts.  The Department oversees the collection of usage statistics for electronic products, and also provides management reports detailing acquisitions and expenditures.

Based in the Otto G. Richter Library, the Department also manages acquisitions for the Marta and Austin Weeks Music Library, the Judi Prokop Newman Information Resource Center, the Architecture Research Center (ARC), and the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science Library.  The Acquisitions Department partners with the Louis Calder Memorial Library, the UM School of Law Library, and the RSMAS Library to acquire and license material collaboratively.  Consortial purchasing partners include the Northeast Research Libraries (NERL), the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida (ICUF), the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL), and Lyrasis.
