Policy Statement

The Otto G. Richter Breezeway is a transit space and is not designed for promotional purposes, including events, tabling, and advertisement. Unauthorized activities in the Richter Library Breezeway will not be permitted. If this occurs, Library staff may approach the organizers, request information from them, and, if necessary, ask them to vacate the Breezeway. Any non-library advertisement (posters, A-frames, flyers, banners, video screens, etc.) placed in the Richter Library Breezeway will be removed without notice.

Written authorization must be obtained in advance from the University of Miami Libraries in order to obtain an exception to the Richter Library Breezeway Use Policy enabling use of the Breezeway for events, tabling, advertisement, promotions, or other similar activity. To obtain permission via an exception request, please see the procedure below.

Requests must be submitted in writing and in advance, and permission must be granted before any promotion take place. The Libraries reserve the right to deny requests. The Community Relations and Events department reviews requests to have any events, tabling, advertisements, or promotions in the Richter Library Breezeway. Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis through the Dean’s office to ensure that the proposed activity: (1) does not interfere with study, research, privacy, and safety needs; and (2) could not be accomplished at the appropriate University location. A suggested alternate location is the Whitten University Center Breezeway. This covered walkway provides student organizations and UM departments with a centralized venue to showcase events and clubs. This area can be reserved by visiting ecms.miami.edu or contacting the office of conference services at conferences@miami.edu.

Procedure

Exception requests to have events, tabling, advertisements, or promotions in the Richter Library Breezeway should be directed in writing and in advance to the Library’s Community Relations and Events Department library.events@miami.edu.
