Place of Springs. ©KMThe Meditation Room is a dedicated space in the library that exists for the purposes of meditation, prayer, contemplation, and reflection by individuals or small groups. It is located in Richter Library, 2nd Floor, Rm 215 E. The room is flexible and can be arranged in different ways to support meditation sessions, prayer, gentle yoga, and other quiet, restorative activities. Guidelines for using the space are described in the Meditation Room Policy.
The Meditation Room also houses the Donn and Maria Tilson Meditation Room Collection. Named in honor of Donn Tilson—associate professor emeritus at the University of Miami School of Communication—and his wife, Maria Tilson, the Collection features an inspiring array of books on spirituality. Topics range from pilgrimage and folk beliefs to social responsibility, Indigenous cultures, and cultural anthropology. Thanks to the continued generosity of the Tilsons, both of whom are proud alumni of the University, the Collection is expanding to include new titles on mindfulness, meditation, and spiritual direction. Visitors to the Meditation Room are welcome to browse the Collection and check out any titles at Access Services in the first floor lobby of Richter Library.
