Study Zones


The University of Miami Libraries have  a “zoned” noise policy, with some areas allowing group / collaborative study and other areas designated for quiet study.

Richter Library

  • First Floor: General computing, collaborative work, group study rooms.
    • Although there are tables and chairs in quiet areas, the first floor is not a “quiet zone.”
  • Second Floor: Limited computing, quiet, individual study, group study rooms.
    • The entire second floor is a quiet zone, with the exception of the group study rooms.  Please have cell phones turned off or on vibrate.  No cell phone use is allowed.  Limit conversations so that others are respected.
  • Stack Tower, Floors 4,5,6,7,9:  Quiet, individual study.
    • The entire stacks tower is a quiet zone.  Please have cell phones turned off or on vibrate.  No cell phone use is allowed.  Limit conversations so that others are respected.

Business Library

Rosenstiel School Library

  • The Map & Chart Room and Rare Book Room are zoned for Group Study / Low Noise.  Reservation required.
  • All other areas of the Rosenstiel School Library are designated as Quiet Study.
  • Cell phone use is prohibited in the Library. Use of cell phones is restricted to the lobby area or the outside breezeway.

Music Library

  • The 1st Floor Listening Lab and the entire second floor are zoned for Quiet Study, with the exception of the group study rooms.  Please have cell phones turned off or on vibrate.  No cell phone use is allowed.  Limit conversations so that others are respected.
