Fostering Inclusive Mentorship
Building a Community of Practice for Mentors & Mentees at
the University of Miami and other ASERL Institutions

Led by the University of Miami Libraries, and in collaboration with academic librarian peers with mentoring or faculty affairs responsibilities across the ASERL community, this project seeks to build a cohort of librarians who will work together to develop materials and a workshop to strengthen mentor/mentee programs across our institutions. This year-long initiative (2025-26) was made possible with funding from the University of Miami’s Office of Faculty Affairs U Choose Mini-grant award; the project’s PI is Elizabeth Gushee, Associate Dean, Digital Strategies & Scholarly Communication.

- UM hosts monthly online meetings throughout the grant’s duration to develop materials, workshop & assessment method;
- UM organizes and hosts in-person planning meeting with ASERL institutions;
- Cohort collaboratively develops workshop for mentors;
- Cohort collaboratively develops assessment tools to measure success of the workshop’s learning outcomes and long-term impact;
- Cohort promotes and makes openly available mentoring workshop;
