Class Visits and Instruction

The Special Collections Department welcomes the opportunity to work with faculty from the University of Miami and area colleges and universities, to tailor an individual class seminar, assignment, or semester curriculum to enhance your course. Instructional services in the Special Collections Department can be arranged as a one-time group visit for students and faculty looking to explore primary resource materials in their subject disciplines. We can also work with faculty to develop semester-length assignments requiring students to visit the Special Collections Department and acquire the hands-on scholarly experience with archival manuscript collections and rare books. Working with these materials will help enrich research skills and deepen students’ understanding of classroom topics.

(Please note: Please contact the Special Collections Department directly with your instructional needs with at least three weeks’ notice for scheduling purposes, whenever possible.)

Request special collections materials via Aeon.

Aeon allows researchers to submit requests for items in the Special Collections Department. Researchers will now be able to register and manage personal information and track requests from any computer using the Aeon system. With Aeon, faculty can submit requests for materials to put on hold for your students for assignments or class visits to the Special Collections Department.

Once you are registered with Aeon, you can locate and then request books, periodicals, manuscripts and archives directly from the Library Catalog and the Finding Aids database, using the “Request This Item” option in the book, periodical or Finding Aid online entry.

Please feel free to contact us to schedule an instructional session, or for help with registering or requesting materials from the new Aeon special collections electronic request system.
