Instructors: Request materials for course reserves

Course reserves include scores, books, audio and video recordings, electronic articles, and personal copies from instructors. These items are available for 3-hour library use only, unless otherwise specified by the course instructor.

Borrowing Reserve Materials (Students)

Each student must present a ‘Cane Card to check out course reserves items. Loans of course reserves material cannot be renewed. Students are financially responsible for all material borrowed and any fines incurred ($1 per hour per item).

Physical materials on course reserve can be checked out with your ‘Cane Card at the Circulation Desk on the 1st Floor of the Marta and Austin Weeks Music Library. You must provide the item’s call number.

You can search course reserves through the Library Catalog by searching for an item’s title, your course code, or your instructor’s name.

Electronic course reserves and streaming audio reserves can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through Blackboard. Click on the “Course Reserves” or “uReserves” link on the left-hand side of your course page.

Placing Materials on Reserve (Instructors)

To place items on reserve for a course, instructors must submit a reserve request each semester that course is taught (even if the materials being used are the same each semester). Requests should be submitted as soon as is possible. Requests will be processed in the order they are received. Please allow up to 2 weeks for processing of reserve requests that include audio materials.

Instructors may submit requests for course reserves by doing one of the following:

  • Complete a Course Reserves Request Form for each course and turn in the completed forms to the Circulation Desk at Weeks Music Library.
  • Submit an electronic Course Reserves Request Form to the Weeks Music Library.
  • Email your syllabus and list of requested materials to music.circulation@miami.edu.

Requests should include the following information:

  • Instructor name
  • Course number and section
  • Call numbers for requested items owned by the library
  • Full bibliographic citations (Composer/ Artist, Title) for recordings

To ensure accurate and timely processing of reserve requests, please include a copy of the course syllabus with each request.
