Cuban Heritage Collection (CHC) Short-Term Research Grants

The Cuban Heritage Collection (CHC) Short-Term Research Grants provide support to U.S.-based graduate students (master’s and doctoral), faculty members, and U.S.-based independent scholars for research at the CHC at the University of Miami Libraries. These grants will help cover travel and accommodation costs for visits lasting 1-3 weeks, facilitating access to the CHC’s unique resources and fostering scholarship in Cuban and Cuban Diaspora studies.

Funding for this program is provided by the Wilbur L. and Jean L. Morrison Endowment for Cuban Studies at the University of Miami.

Grant Details

  • Duration: 1-3 weeks
  • Award amount: Up to $3,000 for travel and accommodations (up to $1,000 per week), contingent on proposed budget
  • Number of awards are dependent on funding availability
  • Award period: June 1, 2025 – May 31, 2026

Eligibility Requirements

  • Eligible applicants include graduate students (master’s and doctoral) and faculty members from U.S.-based institutions, as well as U.S.-based independent scholars.
  • Past recipients of Pre-Prospectus and/or Research Goizueta Graduate Fellowships (still enrolled in their current doctoral programs) are eligible to apply, but preference will be given to other applicants.

  3. CHC materials list
  4. Budget estimate

Applications will be reviewed by a committee of CHC faculty members.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Relevance of research to CHC collections
  • Scholarly merit and feasibility of proposed project

Reporting Requirements

Grant recipients will be required to:

  1. Submit a brief report on their research findings for the CHC’s blog
  2. Acknowledge the CHC in any resulting publications
